With a lifelong love of landscape photography, Michael McCollough has a unique eye for his art. Having traveled extensively throughout the Western United States, Mike fell in love with the sandstone formations and artifacts found in Arizona and Southern Utah. His portfolio includes images that capture the unique interplay that the light has on the texture and form of the sandstone of the slot canyons and natural formations found in the desert, the evidence of humankind's presence on the landscape, as well as the beauty of color provided in nature.
In capturing his images Mike uses a 6x7 medium format camera system that is occasionally supplemented with his digital equipment. His philosophy is that no mountain is too high, no trail is too long, no morning is too early or cold, and no camera system is too heavy if it means capturing that one image that will touch the depths of the viewer.
In choosing the images to include in his portfolio, Mike first looks for technical excellence, composition, and color balance, then looks at the photograph and asks whether this is something that he would be proud to put his name on. Only then is it included in the portfolio.
